3 reasons why social media is not being used correctly in your business

1. You do not know your audience
This is crucial because not finding your target client means you’re trying to talk to everyone, which means you’re really just shouting into the void and hoping someone hears it. If you can’t connect with people, you can’t count on them to buy anything. To maximize your social media marketing performance, it’s important to understand who your audience is – what they want, what they need, where you fit in, etc.

2. You are not consistent

In this new world of social media algorithms, it’s crucial to be consistent.
To clarify, though, this doesn’t mean you have to post something every day. Being consistent means creating a schedule that works for you – and most importantly, sticking to it. Even if you don’t feel like you’re getting immediate results, posting regularly gives your audience a reason to keep coming back to your profiles, and it also helps to have fresh, relevant content when someone looks you up or comes across your business.
The key to maximizing your social presence is to have strong messaging and content that aligns with what your audience needs to see.
Post regularly, keep your audience updated, and gain more trust and credibility over time.

3. You are just trying to build a following
Without being intentional and thinking about whether you’re building an audience that’s right for your business, you just have a number of disengaged listeners. Numbers may look pretty and make you feel good, but unless those people are likely to become paying customers, they’re not helping your cause.
Creating numbers also ruins your data – a key benefit of social media marketing. If you have 1000 followers but 900 realistically never spend money on your business, it means all your analytics and audience insights are useless, making it even harder to get a clear understanding of your audience’s needs.
Yes, it takes time to build brand awareness and build a following, but a following of people who actually engage with your message is far more valuable than tracking numbers to hopefully impress someone who comes across your profile.
Audience numbers can be faked, which is common knowledge to most consumers by now. It is the content and quality of your business that is far more important and will deliver better results in the long run.

The key differentiator
Here’s the thing: The difference between people who say social media doesn’t work and those who are winning customers, making sales and steadily growing their audience with quality leads from their social media profiles is simple. They have a process that works.
They’ve figured out what their audience wants to see, they’re delivering it on a consistent basis, and they’re constantly monitoring and optimizing.
While this sounds like a lot to do, it’s not.
In reality, if you’re spending more than an hour a day on social media, you’re probably just wasting time on “busy work”… and that’s not beneficial to anyone. Break down the most important tasks you need to accomplish each day, set a schedule, and formulate a plan based on your audience data. Then deliver after that.
The key differentiator for those who see success marketing on social media is planning and building a clear understanding of your audience’s needs.
